Connecting with a Stock / Share Broker

Ted’s Tip: “Thomas Watson once said ‘I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.’ Luckily he was just the chairman of IBM and not your Stock Broker! The mark of a great Stock Broker is an eye for investments with outstanding potential, if you find a Stock Broker like that; never let them go (and pass me their number!)”

A Stock Broker (also known as a Share Broker) is licensed to buy and sell shares on the stock market. There are two types of Stock Broker, advisory and non-advisory; and if you’re new to “playing the stock market” you’ll probably need the advisory kind. Advisory Stock Brokers guide you through your investment options (shares, debentures, government bonds, listed property trusts etc) and make recommendations, and for this they charge a higher commission.

To make your search quicker, we have included some of the most common searches below:

Investment Advisors Sydney
Investment Advisors Melbourne
Investment Advisors Brisbane
Investment Advisors Perth
Investment Advisors Adelaide

Non-advisory brokers (sometimes referred to as Discount Brokers) simply buy and sell what you tell them to buy and sell, and charge a lower commission. You will usually only make contact with a non-advisory Broker via phone or email.

What a Good Advisory Stock Broker Can Do For You:

  • They act as your agent in share transactions
  • They advise you on non-listed options such as management trusts, property trusts and equity trusts
  • They help you plan and manage all aspects of your investment portfolio
  • They continually carry out research into good opportunities for you
  • They continually work towards finding you better returns with less risk
  • They can offer financial planning services

Don’t forget you can connect with a range of finance and property professionals through Connect Ted including independent financial advisors and real estate agents
